Description

Developed by Krauss-Maffei in the 1970s, the Leopard 2 is a 3rd generation German main battle tank (MBT). Its impressive performance has made it a popular choice among the armed forces of not only Germany but also 13 other European countries, as well as several non-European states around the world.  The Leopard 2A6 is an upgraded version of the Leopard 2 tank which was first introduced in the late 1990s. It features a number of improvements over its predecessor, including better armour protection, increased firepower, and improved mobility.

The Leopard 2a6 is the first modern MBT we recreated in Lego system. Compared to the WW2 tanks, it was more challenging to build due to its various slopes around the turret and chassis. We will continue working on other MBTs to complete our modern tank series. Keep track of our progress on Instagram @buildarmy!

  1. Unsalted

    Great model
Pros: looks amazing, I struggled to find details it didn’t have that were in the real model.

    Highly detailed interior

    Good suspension system

    Easy instructions

    Hatches can fit mini figures

    Cons: antenna and MG missing

Rather fragile with the turret breaking off often(it is easy to put back on)

Tracks don’t move unless side skirts are taken off (this could just be my subpar building skills)

Stuff to know: this will take a while to build it took me ~9 hours to build

Bags are organized by general type of piece rather Than stages of building

Very strong grip on the pieces this is both a blessing and a curse

Overall: amazing model I intend on buying the T72

Incredible craftsmanship on the design and excellently fun to build. Could not stop marveling at how many intricate details were included. My brother loved it and is now the envy of all his tank buddies! 10/10!

Where can I get the mg3 if it doesn’t come with the tank? I haven’t started to build yet but this looks amazing

Very entertaining and complex build. I do wish the bags were organized into the order which they were used in the build but it was fine. Also I didn’t look very hard to see if it was said on the page but I didn’t know the mg3 was not sold with the set so I was a little disappointed it wasn’t included but overall a great build and I had a good time building it.

An enjoyable build that you have to think about. I’m very impressed at how all the angles were created.

Thank you very much for this great model!

Building the model was a real challenge, as the instructions don’t give a good insight into how to place the bricks in a few places. Therefore, you just have to try your hand in some places and see if the further construction works well. For the smoothbore gun, you should supplement the instructions by using long rods for stabilisation. Experienced modellers will certainly come up with such an idea quickly. The result is fully convincing. It is much bigger in reality than one might think at first from the photos, even if the model dimensions indicate the size.

One question: Could it be that you “wash” the stones dry to reduce shining / gloss? Personally, I like the appearence of the stones, others may find it looks “used”.

    Once again: Many thanks!

      Hi Nicky,
Thanks for the feedback. For the previous batch, We sourced some of the bricks from LEGO when we didn’t have the compatible ones in stock. Sometimes LEGO didn’t have the right colour and we spray-painted the pieces. This issue has been solved for the late batches.

I have been the lucky winner of a BuildArmy contest on Instagram and won this set. While extensively experienced with WW2 models from multiple brands and custom creation, I have been very positively surprised by this build. It offers a large panel of SNOT technics, and some areas are really cleverly built. I particularly appreciated the turret.

Instructions are clear and easy to follow with only a couple of minor issues like the missing length of bars (3L vs. 4L) or parts hidden on step 184 and only visible 2 pages later. Half of the wheels should also be build in mirror compared to the others. Except that, everything is very nicely described with the right level of complexity.

Part quality is very good, with a clutch power greater than regular LEGO, allowing for some sub-assemblies to be fixed with only 1 stud. And it works! Only brackets are hard to mount as parts to be clipped on their side require quite some strength.

As conclusion, this set was not on my radar as I do not build modern tanks normally but now that I have it, I just want to keep it. Moreover, it has placed BuilArmy on my radar of suppliers to watch for military kits.

Hello, I just came across this sight a few days ago, and I absolutely like the models. I especially like the leopard 2a6, but unfortunately it is out of stock. Will there be more of it by any chance?

For those coming to this set after having built other Buildarmy products, I must say that it’s very impressive next to something like the Tiger I and is of the same quality and impeccable design of other kits. I would like to inform people however, that the construction of the Leopard 2A6 can be more challenging in certain areas. Specific examples I would like to give are the side skirts and general rear of the vehicle. Due to the tougher nature of Buildarmy bricks, it’s quite difficult to push the “solid pin” pieces holding the side skirts into the chassis (steps 142 and 152) without moving other pieces or accidently pushing them in too far (which will require considerable strength to pull them out). Considering the rear of the Leopard, due to few areas of connection between the very rear of the vehicle and the rest of the chassis (shown in step 23) considerable care must be taken when connecting the bricks (balancing the stress of certain pieces) in order for the rear to maintain a 90 degree angle with the rest of the chassis.

I also find it necessary to mention that plenty of extra pieces are provided, and that the two hatches on the top of the turret can partially fit full minifigures and comfortably fit torsos (which is a huge positive).

Thanks for the feedback which is the first one we officially received! Yes, the modern tanks are more challenging to build compared to the WWII ones and we only recommend them to experienced builders. We are aware that the compatible pieces we use have stronger clutch power than the LEGO ones. When you insert the side skirts holder into the hull, you need to hold the side wall of the hull with your fingers to stabilize it. And only the rear section of the side skirt need to be handled carefully as it can be accidently pushed in too far.
